Artist:
JOHN BRUNSDON
Title:
'BREEZE I' (signed etching with aquatint - unframed)
Description:
John
Brunsdon RE, ARCA (born 1933) is widely acknowledged as
being one of Britain's finest contemporary printmakers. His
work is held in many public collections, including the Tate
Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Museum of Modern
Art, New York.
Brunsdon's earlier works of the 1960s were markedly
abstract in form and were influenced by the American
abstract expressionists. To use his own words
his prints from this period 'evoke an inner world and
spiritual awakening'. These early works are now scarce
and are much collected.
We are pleased to offer 'Breeze I' a scarce original
etching with aquatint which dates from 1967. The print
measures about 23.5 x 17.7 inches image size, 31 x 22.2
inches paper size, and has deckle edges and full
margins. It is pencil signed, titled and numbered 15 of
50. This work was published by Editions Alecto, who
also sold another example to the Government Art
Collection, and this one has the EA stamp verso and
their number 492.
It is in good condition save for some tape residue to
the reverse, three very small tears in the paper at the
edge (well away from the image) and some light foxing in
the margins, especially at the upper corners. However
the image itself is in lovely fresh condition, and the
foxing mentioned will not be visible once the etching is
mounted and framed...
