Description:
Tom
Phillips, CBE, RA (born 1937) is one of Britain's best known
painters, printmakers and sculptors. Born in London in
1937, he studied art at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts
1961-63. He has exhibited at many major shows
internationally and is represented in numerous public
collections and home and abroad, including the Tate Gallery,
Victoria & Albert Museum, National Portrait Gallery,
Whitworth Art Gallery Manchester, Walker Art Gallery
Liverpool, and the National Museum of Wales. He was elected
a full member oof the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers
1987 and of the Royal Academy 1989.
The present
works are original screenprints, each pencil signed by the
artist and numbered respectively 31 of 75 and 39 of 75. The
images each measure about 21.8 x 15.5 inches and in their
frames they measure about 29.5 x 21.8 inches. Although not
examined out of their frames the prints appear to be in
excellent condition. The frames are of good quality and are
in good condition. The prints are thus 'ready to hang'.
Tom Phillips
exhibits regularly with the Flowers East gallery who date
these screenprints to 1979-80. Another example of 'Dark
Wood' is owned by the National Gallery of Australia who date
it to 1982. We are not sure which date is correct...
