Title:
'Capsule'
- an original signed colour etching with aquatint, framed
Description:
Peter J Olley, ARCA (London) studied at the Royal
College of Art, graduating in 1965, and is a highly
respected printmaker.
He exhibited at the Royal Academy in the 1960s, and his
work has been shown in many international exhibitions,
including in the United States, Japan, South America,
and throughout galleries in Europe. Peter Olley has also
had several one man shows in the UK from 1974, and has
received several awards for his work including
a prize at the California Society of Etchers 1964, a
gold medal at the Buenos Aires Biennale 1972, and first
prize at the Humberside Print Competition 1987.
The present work is an original colour etching with
aquatint, pencil signed, dated 1967, titled 'Capsule'
and numbered 16 from a small edition of 20 etchings.
The etching measures about 26.5 x 21 inches image size
and the full sheet, with deckle edges, is about 31 x 22
inches. It is housed in its original 1960s silver
coloured frame which is very well made and also very
heavy. The work appears to be in good original
condition with no foxing etc, but has not been examined
out of its frame.
We apologise for the reflections from the glass visible
in the main image.
Peter Olley has commented on his early etchings - 'The etchings were made in London
during the swinging sixties, a period of intense
optimism following long years of austerity after the
war.....The Cold War and ambitiously developing space
technology posed ever present threats and opportunities,
providing rich and diverse influences on the production
of art'...
