Artist:
Bernard Cheese
Title:
Radley College (original signed lithograph - framed)
Description: Bernard
Cheese, RE (born 1925) is one of Britain's best known
and respected printmakers. He studied at the Royal
College of Art in London 1947/50, and then taught
printmaking at St Martin's School of Art and Design
before becoming Senior Lecturer at Goldsmith's College,
London. He now lives and works near Colchester, and has
many of his prints in both public and private
collections including the Contemporary Art Society and
the Victoria and Albert Museum.
This framed lithograph measures about 20.5 x 27.2 inches
image size and
about 30 x 36.7 inches in its frame. It
is part of the Public Schools Series and another example
of this lithograph is held in the Government Art
Collection. The work is pencil signed and dated 1964,
titled 'Radley College' lower left, and numbered 17 from
an edition of 100 prints. Radley
College is situated about 5 miles south of Oxford. The
print is housed in what we think is the original frame,
which is cream in colour with a mount in light grey.
Although we have not examined the lithograph out of the
frame, it appears to be in very good condition for its
age, with no foxing, browning, tears in the paper or
other faults. The frame is adequate and serviceable but
it does have some losses consistent with age...
