Myer
Title:
'Trees'
- an original signed painting, oil on canvas - framed Description:
Hyam Myer, LG (1904-1978) was a painter in oils of
landscapes, nudes and still lifes.
He was born in Manchester of Romanian descent. Myer
studied at the Slade School of Art under Professor Henry
Tonks and later in Paris. In 1924 he shared a show with
Horace Brodzky and was elected a member of the
prestigious London Group in 1930. He lived in France
during the 1930s. Myer exhibited at the Royal Academy,
New English Art Club, London Group, and the National
Society of Painters and Gravers, and at the Lefevre and
Goupil Galleries.
His
work tends to appear very rarely and examples are held
by the Ben Uri Art Society in London and by Vancouver
Art Gallery in Canada.
The
present work is an oil on canvas, measuring about 24 x
30 inches canvas size. It is signed by the artist and
there is a partial label verso giving the title as
'Trees', the artist's name and part of his address.
Myer often kept his titles simple! We think this work is
likely to have been painted in France in the 1930s. It
is in excellent condition. The present frame is
relatively modern and is not in keeping with the quality
of the painting...
