Richard Bawden, RWS, RE, NEAC (born 1936 Essex, son of
Edward Bawden) is a painter and printmaker,
mainly producing watercolours, etchings and linocuts.
He studied at Chelsea and St Martin's Schools of Art and
later at the Royal College of Art, London. He has
exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Academy,
and is a member of the prestigious Royal Watercolour
Society, New English Art Club, and the Royal Society of
Painter-Printmakers. He has had many solo shows in the
UK and overseas and his work is held in numerous public
collections, including the Tate Gallery and the Victoria
& Albert Museum.
The present work is an original etching with aquatint,
pencil signed, titled 'Dried Plants' and numbered 44
from an edition of 100 etchings. It measures about 22.2
x 15.7 inches plate size and about 29.2 x 22 inches in
its relatively modern frame. This work dates to the mid
1970s. Another example of this print was exhibited at
the Royal Academy in 1975. The etching itself appears to
be in very good condition but has not been examined by
us outside the frame. There is some minor
discolouration to the mount at left centre...
