'Lyme Bay' - an original signed aquatint, framed Description:
Michael Fairclough, RE, NEAC (born 1940, Blackburn, son
of the artist Wilfred Fairclough) is painter and
printmaker, mainly of landscapes and seascapes. He
studied at Kingston School of Art 1957-61, at the
British School in Rome 1964-67, and with S W Hayter at
Atelier 17 in Paris in 1967. Michael Fairclough has
exhibited extensively, including with the Royal Society
of Painter Etchers (becoming an associate in 1964 and a
full member in 1973) and the New English Art Club
(member 1995). He was also elected to the Printmakers
Council in 1981. His work is held in a number of public
collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the
Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Government Art
Collection, and New York City Public Library. The main
item shown is an original aquatint titled 'Lyme Bay'. It
measures about 11.5 x 13.5 inches image size and about
20 x 22.5 inches in its good quality light wooden frame,
and is pencil signed and numbered 272 from an edition of
350 prints. The aquatint is in very good condition as is
the frame save for some scratches to the surface of the
glass. This work dates to 1980.
We are also showing here two other colour aquatints
by Michael Fairclough both of which are pencil signed by
the artist, editioned, and framed. These are (in order
of images descending below Lyme Bay) - 'Vers L'ile' #75
of 75, 1980, image 10.5x13.7 inches, good wooden frame,
£90; 'Hampshire Copse' #187 of 200, 1980, image 9.5 x
11.7 inches, good wooden frame but glass needs
replacing, £75;
and 'Avebury, The Stone Avenue' #11 of 50,
circa 1975, image 8.2x10.5 inches, modest red coloured
