Artist:
John

Title:
Two
Figures II - an original painting in mixed media on paper,
framed
Description:
John Emanuel (born 1930, Bury,
Lancashire) is a painter and printmaker of figure subjects
and of the human form embraced by the landscape, especially
the Cornish landscape. A largely self taught artist with no
formal art training, he began painting full time on moving
to Cornwall in 1964. John Emanuel was elected a member of
the Penwith Society of Artists in 1968 and had his first one
man show in 1975 at the Wills Lane Gallery in St Ives. Many
other solo shows have followed including at the Gilbert Parr
Gallery, London; Montpelier Studio, London; Salthouse
Gallery, St Ives; and Beaux Arts Gallery, Bath. He has had a
studio at Porthmeor in St Ives since 1982 and was a founder
member of the Porthmeor Printmakers 1992 and a member and
one time chairman of the Newlyn Society of Artists.
The present work is in mixed
media (gouache, pastel, watercolour, charcoal, pencil and
gold leaf) and measures about 20 x 14 inches paper size and
about 28 x 22 inches in its frame. It is signed on the
reverse and titled 'Two Figures II' 1984, and has the label
of the Montpelier Studio in London SW7. We believe that this
work would have been exhibited in the John Emanuel solo show
held at that gallery in 1984. The work is housed in its
original wooden frame, which was made in Penzance, and is in
good condition...
