Description: Henry Cliffe (1919-1983) was born in Scarborough, and studied at the Bath Academy of Art. He ran the lithography studio at Bath from 1950 until retirement in 1981. He was a regular exhibitor in international print exhibitions and in 1960 was one of five artists shown in the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. His early works were influenced by both Surrealism and the neo-romantic English landscape school of the 1940s. Throughout the 1950s Cliffe's work became more concerned with the relationship between the human figure and the landscape.  His work is represented extensively in public collections.

The present work 'MJQ - The Cylinder', an original lithograph, is on handmade paper with deckle edges measuring about 19 x 27 inches image size and about 22.6 x 31.6 inches full sheet size.  The print is in excellent condition, having never been framed.  Henry Cliffe has pencil signed the print, dated it (19)64 and numbered it 39 of 50 prints only.
