Gioachino Giobbi (born 1926, Waterbury, Connecticut,
USA) is a well known American painter, sculptor and
writer on Italian cookery, and as an artist is
especially associated with abstract expressionism and
pop art and is noted for his fine sense of colour. He
studied at Whitney School of Art 1946; Vesper George
School of Art 1946-1950; Cape School of Art,
Massachusetts 1946-1950; Art Students League,
Manhattan 1950-51 and 1955; and in Florence 1951-1954.
Edward Giobbi has exhibited widely in America and
Europe, and his solo shows include The American Embassy,
London; Galleria Obelisco, Rome; Hudson River Museum,
Westchester, New York; The New Art Centre, Chelsea;
Norton Gallery, Palm Beach, Florida; Galerie An Der
Ruess, Lucerne, Switzerland; and Katonah Museum of Art,
New York. Group shows include Baltimore Museum of Art,
Maryland; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; MoMA,
New York; and San Francisco Museum of Art, California. Giobbi's
work is to be found in a number of collections in the
United States, Italy and Britain.
The present work is a framed original abstract
watercolour, signed and dated 1966, and titled on the
gallery label verso 'Addio Provincetown C'.
Provincetown is situated in Massachusetts, at the tip of
Cape Cod. The work measures about 20 x 28 inches image
size on paper measuring about 22 x 30 inches, and it is
23 x 31 inches in its original pale gold coloured
frame. The painting was exhibited at the artist's show
at The New Art Centre in Sloane Street, Chelsea in the
1960s and it is good condition...
