Artist: John Livesey

Title: Garden scene with tree in blossom (a framed original oil painting on board)

Description: John Livesey (1926-1990) was a well known painter in oils mainly of garden scenes and interiors, often with flowers or plants. Born in London he studied art at the St Martin's School of Art under Ruskin Spear. Livesey exhibited widely in Europe and often painted on the continent. His work often has heavy impasto, applied with a palette knife, and was illustrated in Jack Beddington's invaluable book 'Young Artists of Promise' published by The Studio Publications in 1957.

The present work is an oil painting on board signed by the artist lower left and measuring about 30 x 18 inches board size and about 38 x 27 inches in its modern gold coloured frame. We think the subject is likely to be taken from Italy or perhaps Switzerland in the Spring.  The painting is in very good original condition as is the frame save for some minor losses...
