Description: Michael
Chaplin, RWS, RE (born 1943, Huntingdonshire) is a well
known painter and printmaker of landscapes and town
scenes, and is also a teacher, writer on art and
broadcaster. He studied at Watford School of Art 1961-64
and at Brighton School of Art 1967-68 on a postgraduate
course in printmaking. He exhibited at the Royal
Academy from 1969, and was elected an Associate of the
Royal Society of Painter Printmakers 1966, full RE 1971,
an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society 1993 and a
full member 1997. His work is held in many notable
collections, including the Ashmolean Museum Oxford, the
Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, and the Government Art
Collection. The artist lives in Maidstone, Kent.
The
present work is an original pencil signed etching with
aquatint titled 'Water Meadow', dated 1981, and numbered
13 from an edition of 200 prints. The etching measures
about 21.5 x 17 inches image size and about 34 x 27
inches in what appears to be the orginal frame. The work
is in good original condition and is ready to hang. An
impression of this etching was exhibited at the Royal
Academy summer show in 1981...
