Artist: Colville Barclay

Title: Still Life (original signed pastel with pen & ink - framed)    

Description: Sir Herbert Colville Barclay, Bt (born 1913) studied art at the Ruskin School of Art under Albert Rutherston.  He exhibited a number of pictures at the Royal Academy in the 1950s and 1960s, and also showed at the Royal Society of British Artists, the London Group, and in the provinces. His work is held in several public collections and is now much sought after. Sir Colville lived at Petworth in West Sussex and the present watercolour was acquired from him in the 1990s.

The present work is an original pastel with pen and ink measuring about 4.7 x 6.2 inches image size and about 12 x 12.7 inches framed.  Although unexamined out of the frame it appears to be in excellent condition and the modern frame is in very good order too.  The work is signed by the artist lower left and is likely to date to the early to mid 1950s.  We also have other examples of this artist's work available...
