Wakeford:
Edward Felix Wakeford, ARA (1914-1973) was a painter
in oils mainly of coastal and urban scenes and he also produced
posters for Shell and BP. He was born in the Isle of Man, and
studied at the Chelsea College of Art and at the Royal College of
Art in Kensington. He served in the Army in World War II and
thereafter taught at Chelsea School of Art. Edward Wakeford
exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1957, being elected ARA 1969,
and with the New English Art Club, and he also had one-man shows in
London with the Hanover Gallery and Brook Street Gallery. His work
is held in a number of public collections including The British
Council, Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in Birkenhead, the National
Motor Museum Trust, and Doncaster Art Gallery. In October 1973 a
memorial exhibition was held at the Fieldbourne Galleries in London
and, in 1986, his work was shown at Abbot Hall Art Gallery in
Kendal. He lived in Chelsea.
