Designer:
Hans J Wegner (1914-2007)
Hans J Wegner studied as an
apprentice cabinetmaker. He trained at the Academy of Architecture, Copenhagen and
School of Arts and Crafts, Copenhagen.
After working as a designer
for Arne Jacobsen and Erick Moller, Wegner established
his own office working with Borge Mogensen.
He designed furniture for
AP-Stolen, Johannes Hansen, Carl Hansen & Son, Getama,
Ry, Andreas Tuck and Fritz Hansen.
Wegner was the first Danish
designer to be introduced to the U.S.A in 1949. Long
list of awards and honours including Milan Grand Prix
1951, gold in '54 and silver in '57
