Harold Wood:
Harold Wood (born 1918, Lancashire) is a painter of portraits,
figure subjects and landscapes, in oil and watercolour. From 1935 he
trained as a decorative artist with the Leyland Paint Company and
studied drawing and painting part time at the Harris School of Art,
Preston. After war service he worked as an illustrator and
model maker in London and also studied etching at the Central School
of Arts and Crafts. Wood began painting full time in the early
1950s, and he has had a number of one-man shows including the Zwemmer Gallery
1954, Beaux Arts Gallery 1956, Grosvenor Gallery 1964,
Bramante Gallery Victoria 1968 & 1970, Kamp Gallery,
Chicago, USA 1998, and Vanguard Gallery, Cork 2003.
Since undertaking important commissions for clients in
Saudi Arabia and Oman, Harold Wood has been referred to
as 'The Painter of the Arab World'. He moved to Ireland
in 1980 and has lived at Arlinstown in County Cork.
