Jean Young: (Helen) Jean Young, RBA, NEAC (1914-1995) was a painter in oil of landscapes, figure subjects and interiors, which were characterised by her use of brilliant colour and her strong sense of design. Born in London she studied while still at school under Otway McCannell at Farnham School of Art; then at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art for two years; later with John Skeaping at the London Zoo; at the Royal Academy Schools 1933-38; and then in Florence 1938.  She exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy, the London Group, the Royal Society of British Artists, New English Art Club and the Womens International Art Club. Jean Young was elected a member of the prestigious Royal Society of British Artists in 1948 and also of the New English Art Club. She lived for many years at Northwood in Middlesex.
