Gérard Cochet (1888-1969) was a well-known French painter, printmaker and illustrator. He was born in Avranches in Normandy and studied art at the Académie Julian in 1909. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne and was head of studio at the Academie Ranson 1932-35 and vice-president of the Jeune Gravure Contemporaine. Cochet illustrated a number of books. His work is represented in several public collections in France and elsewhere including in the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. He died at home in Paris in 1969.
