Patrick Hayman (1915-1988) was a well known painter, draughtsman, maker of constructions and poet. He was born in London. As a young man he settled in New Zealand in 1936 and took up painting at the School of Art in Dunedin. He returned to London in 1947 and lived for a few years in the early 1950s in west Cornwall. He was an admirer of the work of Alfred Wallis. Hayman exhibited widely and had a number of one man shows in St Ives over a period of more than thirty years. He was also a member of the Penwith Society. His work is represented in a number of public collections, including the Tate Gallery, Arts Council Collection, Ben Uri Museum of Art, Cornwall Council, and Southampton City Art Gallery.
