Wieslaw Pilawski, ROI (1916-1972) was a well-known painter in oils of landscapes, figures subjects and still life. He was born of Polish descent in Mscislaw, an area now part of Belarus. He studied art in Poland and later at the Regent Street Polytechnic in London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1959 and 1965, at the Royal Society of British Artists, National Society, Piccadilly Galleries, Roland Browse & Delbanco, and chiefly with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters of which group he was elected a member in 1953. Pilawski had a one man show at The Leicester Galleries in November 1956. After the war years he lived in south-west London (Chelsea and Fulham) and from about 1956 he settled in East Dulwich, London SE22.
