Andre Bicat (1909-1996) was born in England to a French father and an English mother. A well-known painter, printmaker and art teacher, he received widespread recognition, and he found many of his subjects in continental Europe, especially in France and Italy. He showed regularly at the Royal Academy, at the Redfern Gallery, Wildenstein, and the Leger and O'Hana Galleries in London. A number of his prints are held in the collection of the Tate Gallery and a larger group is in the Government Art Collection. He was also a tutor at the Royal College of Art, and lived near Pangbourne in Berkshire. A retrospective exhibition was held at Reading Museum and Art Gallery. His work is represented in the collections of Reading Museum and the Arts Council of Great Britain.
