Title: 'Britannia, 1940-1941' - an original pencil signed wood engraving; framed
Description: This original wood engraving is pencil signed by the artist lower right and inscribed 'London 1941'. It is titled in pencil 'Britannia, 1940-1941' lower left and is numbered in pencil 11 from an edition of 50 prints only. This work is regarded as being an iconic print from the early years of World War II with the symbolism of Britannia against the backdrop of the cliffs of Dover, standing resolute against the Nazis. It is housed in what appears to be its original good quality wooden frame and is in good condition and does not appear to have been laid down, although we have not examined it out of its frame. We also have another scarce engraving by this artist titled 'Spring'...
