Artist: Mieczyslaw Lurczynski
Title: 'Oasis in the Desert'
Description: We have an extensive collection of work by this artist who spent the majority of his working life in France. The paintings will appear on this site over a period of time and also on our sister website Nick Waters Art. The present work is in watercolour, with some pencil, and depicts an oasis in the Algerian Desert (part of the Sahara). The work is likely to date to the mid 1960s as it seems unlikely that the artist would have ventured there until after the war in Algeria had ended in 1962. The watercolour is signed by the artist lower right and is on Annonay watermarked paper (we think the maker is Canson, a long established French company). It has good strong colour and appears never to have been framed. There is some relatively minor creasing to the paper at upper left and a small crease to the top right corner of the paper. Otherwise it is in good order.
Size: About 9.9 x 10.0 inches paper size; unframed
